The Ruger American is a 9mm semi-auto pistol first introduced in
2015. It is striker fired and features a black Nitride finish, an
integral rail, ambidextrous slide release & mag release, 3-dot
LoMount Carry Novak sights, a 3.5-inch 1:10 barrel, interchangeable
grip inserts, and a capacity (depending upon the magazine being used)
of either 12 or 17 rounds. It also boasts a low bore axis and a
redesigned barrel lug, both of which are designed to reduce recoil
impulse.

Very nice pistol. Likes: Fully ambidextrous mag release and slide release. Field strips easily. Accurate Better than average trigger for striker fired. Nice grip pieces for customization. (small is good for small hands. my wife likes it.) Could improve: The pistol is a little bulky when attempting to concealed carry. Not my EDC or my wife’s. Trigger pull could be a little shorter and a bit lighter. If it were, it would be one the top striker fired triggers.

Has been one of my favorite and most reliable pistols. I have 6000 rounds through it and so far not so much as a hiccup. Buds as always was amazing!!

I absolutely love this gun. It fires my hand well. I have had no issues with it at all. Great fun to shoot.

The gun is much thicker and heavier than I was lead to believe. Even Ruger’s website says it’s 1.05″ wide but it’s def thicker and heavier than that. Also, the gun is kind of rough around the edges. It feels like it was meant for military duty (which it was) instead of civilian conceal carry. The plastic feels a grade or two cheaper than other guns. The palm swell can be swapped out but it’s kind of loose on there when you pick up the gun. The mag release is stiff and a little gritty. That said, it goes bang every time. I have about 400rds thru it so far, all 124grain, and it hasn’t missed a beat. Overall I believe it will be reliable it’s just not fancy in the hand like a new Sig or Glock might be.

I’ve had this gun for awhile but i’ve only taken it to the range twice. Now granted I only bought it for a truck gun. My opinion is it’s not worth buying for any amount of money. It’s too heavy for a gun of this size and unreliable. I had several failure to feeds and eject. My first 3 shots at 12 feet didn’t make it on paper. I don’t know where they went. I am no novice either. The mags are cheap as well. I think Ruger needs to start using mec gar mags. My taurus pt111 g2 is more reliable and accurate than the ruger.

Have had the Ruger American Compact for a while now. Shoots great, feels great in the hand. Purchased additional 17 round magazines with the sleaves, they also as expected work great. Highly recommend.
